Even the roads are relaxing around these parts. Every car window will have views of rolling hills, quaint farms or immaculate orchard rows telling tales of what fruit is in season.
GRIMWADE TO BALINGUP
Take Sandhills Road off the Donnybrook-Boyup Brook Road, meandering along what turns into Brookhampton Road. After about 15 minutes you will turn left onto the Kirup-Grimwade Road and through the old Grimwade townsite. Turning right on the Grimwade Road will bring you round to Balingup.
Highlights: scenic bushlands, historic Brookhampton Hall, Grimwade townsite and the picturesque hills and valleys of Balingup.
UPPER CAPEL DRIVE
Head out west off the South Western Highway in Kirup past the Kirup tavern and you’ll find spectacular scenery with hills and valleys a-plenty. This drive continues to the Upper-Capel Road where you can loop back to Donnybrook. Some short detours can get you to Smallwater Estate and Oakway Estate if you’d like to stock up on some incredible wine from the Geographe region along the way.
Highlights: the most incredible hills and farmlands, plus wineries nearby to boot.
PRESTON VALLEY DRIVE
Head out to the Preston Valley Store and take a left out to Gnomesville. This drive can take you out past King Jarrah Tree, Wellington Mills and the Wellington Dam. Head back to Preston Valley and turn towards Mumballup where you’ll find a fabulous tavern. Continue past Mumballup and you’ll find the popular Glen Mervyn Dam.
Highlights: Sample Ferguson Valley, the Wellington National Park and local beauties like Yabberup and Mumballup. This area deserves at least a day in your trip planning.
